Bohemian Pear Drop also known as a Faceted Teardrop Pendeloque, Pear-Shaped Prism, or Bohemian Cut Drop.
Originating in 18th-century Bohemia (modern-day Czech Republic)—the undisputed epicentre of European mainland glass cutting—bohemian pear drops became defining decorative elements of classical European lighting. Unlike smooth or plain oval pendeloques, these drops feature broad triangular and diamond facets carved across both faces, tapering smoothly from a wide, rounded base to a narrow top pinhole. The wide surface area and precision geometric cuts were engineered to maximize light dispersion from early candles and gas jets, casting brilliant, prismatic spectra.
They were widely used on Baroque, Rococo, Maria Theresa, and Neo-Classical chandeliers, adornments on wall sconces, and perimeter cascades on grand palace fixtures.
